The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially announced the 15 finalists for the 2025 IOC Climate Action Awards, and among them is the Colombian Olympic Committee (COC), recognized for its leadership and commitment to integrating environmental sustainability into sport.

These awards celebrate the most innovative initiatives within the Olympic Movement, honoring organizations that have demonstrated a real impact in the fight against climate change and the promotion of sustainable practices in the sporting environment.

The Colombian Olympic Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by incorporating climate action into the planning and delivery of its events, training programs, and community activities.

Between 2022 and 2025, the COC achieved a 60% reduction in carbon emissions during the 2025 Ladrilleros Triathlon, and contributed to the collection of 32 tonnes of waste through the Tierra Bomba Project—an initiative that combines sport, education, and environmental awareness.

“The COC reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by incorporating climate action into the planning and delivery of sporting events, training, and community engagement. It promotes environmental awareness and training, and supports initiatives to reduce carbon footprints,” highlighted the official statement from the International Olympic Committee.

Recognition of Leadership

The Executive Committee of Centro Caribe Sports, led by its president Luis Mejía Oviedo, extended its congratulations to the Colombian Olympic Committee, emphasizing this achievement as a source of regional pride.

“The Executive Committee of Centro Caribe Sports and its president, Luis Mejía Oviedo, congratulate the Colombian Olympic Committee on its outstanding nomination as a finalist for the 2025 IOC Climate Action Awards. This recognition reflects the work carried out by the Colombian Olympic Committee, its president Ciro Solano, and the entire team in favor of sustainability and environmental protection.”

Toward a Sustainable Future

The COC continues to strengthen its ecological vision and commitment to the planet, fostering an active environmental culture within sport and amplifying the voice of Central America and the Caribbean in the global fight against climate change. Its work demonstrates that sport can be a powerful tool not only to transform lives, but also to protect the environment that sustains them.

The winners of the IOC Climate Action Awards will be announced in the months leading up to the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games—an ideal stage to reaffirm that the future of sport must also be built on environmental responsibility, innovation, and ecological awareness.
