Sports Infrastructure Progressing Well for Santo Domingo 2026
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – As part of the preparations for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026—dubbed the Centennial Games as they coincide with the 100th anniversary of the regional sports organization—a meeting was held to review and assess the timeline of the sports infrastructure projects. The meeting took place at the offices of the Organizing Committee, located at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
The meeting was led by the President of Centro Caribe Sports, Luis Mejía Oviedo; the President of the Organizing Committee, José Monegro; the Minister of Housing and Buildings, Ito Bisonó; and the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, along with the authorities who are part of the various commissions responsible for the sports facilities.
During the session, a detailed review of the progress of the facilities at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center was conducted, verifying compliance with the timeline established for the delivery of each venue. It was highlighted that the planning remains in “green light” status, ensuring that the works are progressing as scheduled and providing confidence to the national Olympic committees that will participate in the regional event.
Among the main points discussed was the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, which will host the opening ceremony and the athletics competitions, as well as the evaluation of the various venues that make up the sports complex.
Luis Mejía Oviedo described the meeting as successful and highlighted the coordination between the Dominican Government, the Organizing Committee, and Centro Caribe Sports, noting that this collaboration strengthens the organization of the Centennial Games—an event expected to mark a turning point in the development of sport and sports culture in the Dominican Republic.
