The world of athletics gathers in Poland: all set for the 2026 World Indoor Championships

Global athletics is gearing up for one of the major events of the indoor calendar. From March 20 to 22, 2026, the world’s top athletes will gather in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland, to compete in the World Athletics Indoor Championships, an event featuring 27 medal events across three days of high-level competition.

The competition will bring together established stars and rising talents of international athletics in a setting that will set the tone for the 2026 season and project the leading contenders toward the next key milestones of the Olympic cycle.

Regional presence on the world stage

Central America and the Caribbean will once again have a strong presence at the event, with athletes arriving as leading figures in their respective disciplines.

In the women’s triple jump, with the final scheduled for Saturday, March 21 at 19:38 (local time), Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas—Olympic champion and multiple world champion—emerges as one of the top contenders for the podium, alongside Cuba’s Leyanís Pérez, reigning world champion and one of the rising stars of the event. They will be joined by Dominica’s Thea LaFond, Olympic champion and World Indoor champion, who has established herself among the world’s best.

In the men’s event, the triple jump final will take place on Friday, March 20 at 19:35, where the region also holds strong medal hopes with Cuba’s Lázaro Martínez, 2022 World Indoor champion, and rising talent Andy Hechavarría.

Mexico will aim to make an impact throughout the championships across several events: Uziel Muñoz will compete in the shot put final on Sunday, March 22 at 11:30, while high jumper Erick Portillo will contest the final on Saturday, March 21 at 12:15. In middle-distance, Eduardo Herrera will compete in the 1,500 meters, with heats on Friday, March 20 at 18:54 and the final scheduled for Sunday, March 22 at 18:38.

International stars

The championship will also feature major global stars such as Saint Lucia’s sprinter Julien Alfred, who will compete in the 60 meters, with rounds beginning on Saturday, March 21 at 11:05 and the final set for 21:20 later that day.

For the Dominican Republic, sprinter Liranyi Alonso will also compete in the women’s 60 meters.

Bahamian hurdler Devynne Charlton will be another standout, aiming to make history in the 60m hurdles, with heats on Sunday, March 22 at 12:55, followed by semifinals at 18:52 and the final at 20:13.

In men’s sprinting, Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson will be one of the athletes to watch in the 60 meters, with the final scheduled for Friday, March 20 at 21:22.

Three days of elite competition

The championship program will unfold over three intense days, combining track, field and combined events, with finals distributed across Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
