Colombia's Walter Vargas Wins Gold in Men's Individual Time Trial

SANTO DOMINGO. Colombian cyclist Walter Vargas became the first gold medalist in the cycling competition on Saturday after winning the men’s individual time trial with a time of 47:13 over the 40-kilometer course held at Parque Mirador Sur in the Dominican capital.

The 34-year-old rider gave Colombia its first gold medal at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games.

Vargas completed the four laps in splits of 11:34, 11:32, 11:46, and 11:40.

The silver medal went to Edgar Cadena of Mexico, who finished in 49:00, while his compatriot Sebastián Ruizclaimed the bronze medal with a time of 49:07.

Dominican Riders’ Performance

Dominican cyclists Erlin García and Josuha Hiciano finished in 15th and 18th place, respectively.

García completed the course in 53:16, while Hiciano crossed the finish line in 57:02.

Upcoming Cycling Events

Cycling competition will continue on Monday with the team pursuit events for both men and women, scheduled for 11:35 a.m. and 12:10 p.m., respectively, followed by the men’s team sprint. Finals in both disciplines will begin at 6:10 p.m.
