The Dominican Republic duo of Crismil Paniagua and Julibeth Payano made a commanding start to their campaign, defeating the Cayman Islands pair of Luna Ebanks and Joanna Robinson in straight sets, 21-4, 21-7, during the preliminary round of the women’s beach volleyball tournament at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, held at the Malecón Deportivo.

Backed by the home crowd, the Dominican pair controlled the match from the opening rally. Strong attacking play, an effective serve and a disciplined defensive performance limited their opponents’ opportunities throughout the contest. Paniagua and Payano established an early advantage and never allowed the Cayman Islands team to mount a comeback.

Julibeth Payano led the Dominican offense with 14 points, including 11 kills and three aces. Crismil Paniagua also finished with 14 points, recording seven kills and seven aces in one of the most dominant individual performances of the tournament’s opening day.

For the Cayman Islands, Luna Ebanks contributed one attack point and one ace, while Joanna Robinson battled throughout the match but was unable to score against the relentless pressure applied by the Dominican duo. Although the Caribbean team attempted to adjust its approach in the second set, it continued to struggle against the hosts’ consistent play.

With the victory, Paniagua and Payano earned an important win in the preliminary round and strengthened their hopes of advancing to the knockout stage. Their convincing opening performance confirmed the Dominican pair’s strong form as they continue their pursuit of a place on the Santo Domingo 2026 podium.
