Centro Caribe Sports Begins its General Assembly
With the presence of 35 of the 37 member National Olympic Committees, the Centro Caribe Sports General Assembly began. It was held in the Consular Hall of the Hotel El Embajador in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
During the session, the president of Centro Caribe Sports, Luis Mejía Oviedo, assured that the organization is adapting to new challenges with optimism and commitment. “Centro Caribe Sports is adapting to new challenges and is looking forward to hosting its centennial games with great hope. We are grateful to the regional leaders for their support of each of our organization’s programs,” he stated.
For his part, José Monegro, president of the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games Organizing Committee, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to hosting the most important multi-sport event in the region.
“We want Santo Domingo to be remembered as an innovator,” Monegro stated, highlighting the efforts being made to ensure modern, sustainable games with a high impact on the sports community. The event also featured remarks from the President of the International Olympic Committee, Kirsty Coventry, who, through a video, highlighted the importance of sport in the current context: “Today, more than ever, sports movements play an important role,” she stated, recognizing the work of Centro Caribe Sports in strengthening unity and developing Olympism in the region.
The General Assembly will continue to discuss key issues for the future of sport in Central America and the Caribbean, consolidating the path toward the Santo Domingo 2026 Games and reinforcing the commitment to Olympic values and athlete development.
