Leyanis Pérez leads a historic final and claims victory at the 2026 World Indoor Championships
The women’s triple jump once again confirmed its place as one of the most competitive events in global athletics. In Kujawy Pomorze, Poland, Cuba’s Leyanis Pérez was crowned world indoor champion, winning with a leap of 14.95 meters in a final defined by its high level and the presence of the sport’s biggest stars.
Leyanis’ moment
Pérez arrived at the event as one of the most consistent athletes on the international circuit, and in Poland she proved it once again. Her best mark, achieved on her second attempt, was enough to secure the lead in a competition where the pressure remained until the very end.
Reigning world champion both outdoors and indoors in the current cycle, the Cuban athlete has built a competitive identity defined by character and commitment, with the ability to deliver in decisive moments.
Yulimar Rojas: return and podium
Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas, a historic figure in the triple jump, returned to a world podium by claiming the silver medal with a mark of 14.86 meters.
Her performance was marked by adjustments and competitive response: she opened with a foul, recorded 14.54 meters in her second jump, fouled again in the third, and found her best mark in the fourth round with 14.86 meters, which secured second place. She then added another foul in the fifth attempt and closed with 14.75 meters.
Her performance confirms her return to the elite following a recovery process that had kept her away from competition.
A world-class final
The podium was completed by Senegal’s Saly Sarr, who reached 14.70 meters.
The final brought together the top exponents of the triple jump in a showdown once again marked by the strong presence of Central America and the Caribbean.
