The Dominican Association of Sports Tourism (ADOTURD) recognized on Thursday afternoon International Olympic Committee member and President of Centro Caribe Sports, Luis Mejía Oviedo, for his career and contributions to national and international sport.

The recognition was presented by ADOTURD President Yerik Pérez during the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2026), currently being held at IFEMA Madrid, Spain.

“Luis Mejía Oviedo, affectionately known as Don Luisin, is a person who has served as a role model and has worked unconditionally for the development of good practices among youth and for the growth of sports in the Dominican Republic,” Pérez stated during the ceremony.

Mejía Oviedo, who served as President of the Dominican Olympic Committee from 2004 to 2021, expressed his gratitude for the honor.

“Honestly, I receive it, I appreciate it, and I celebrate it, especially at a moment like this, while we are here at this stand at FITUR 2026. I receive it here today and I want to thank this association, which is moving forward at a very good pace,” said Luisin.

He also expressed his enthusiasm for continuing to work for sport, with the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, which will celebrate the centennial of the sports organization in charge of the event.

“Here with Centro Caribe Sports, with the Games, with all of this, these are the motivations that encourage us to keep working and moving forward. I wish you the greatest success,” he added.

Mejía Oviedo is currently concluding a Sports Tourism agenda with different Central American and Caribbean countries that are exhibiting at the fair, which brings together thousands of people in Madrid.
