Mexico Opens Beach Volleyball Competition with Victory at Santo Domingo 2026

SANTO DOMINGO. Mexico’s beach volleyball duo of Susana Torres and Abril Flores opened their campaign at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 with a 2-0victory over Grenada in the preliminary round held at the Malecón Deportivo.

The Mexican pair displayed a solid performance from the opening serve to defeat Thornia Mitchell and Renisha Stafford, who, despite the loss, put up a strong fight throughout several stretches of the match. Mitchell recorded seven points for Grenada, including four attack points and three aces, while Stafford contributed six points with five attacksand one block.

For Mexico, Abril Flores led all scorers with 19 points, including 16 attacks and three aces, while Susana Torresadded 10 points, with six attacks and four aces, to guide their team to victory.

Following the match, Torres and Flores emphasized the importance of opening the tournament with a win, noting that the result gives them confidence heading into their upcoming matches as they pursue a place in the next rounds of the Games.
