The President of Panam Sports, after tying with 48 votes in the first round, defeated Italy’s Giovanni Malagò and became a new member of the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), following the election held during the 145th IOC Session in Milan, Italy.

The American continent now has a new representative on the IOC Executive Board after the election conducted this Wednesday at the 145th Session of the international body in Milan, Italy.

Panam Sports President Neven Ilic was elected as a new member of the IOC Executive Board after prevailing over Giovanni Malagò. A total of 95 votes were officially cast in the election.

It is worth noting that this is the most important position ever achieved by a Chilean sports official in history.

“This result is a source of tremendous pride—pride for the Americas and pride for Chile. There is truly a great deal of work ahead, and being able to bring the voice of the Americas, of our countries and the realities of each of our nations to the Executive Board is part of the task I must undertake. This is a tremendous honor for Chile, and I am very proud to have achieved it,” an emotional Neven Ilic said after the election.

“My mission is connected to sport worldwide, to the athletes who are at the center of everything, but above all to bringing the reality of each of the 41 countries that are part of Panam Sports. We have 41 countries with different realities, and it is important to bring to the Executive Board ways to address those realities, continue supporting athletes, and help the Americas grow stronger every day,” Ilic added.

“Finally, I want to thank everyone—my family, my friends who have supported me, and the entire sporting community,” concluded the President of Panam Sports and now IOC Executive Board member, Neven Ilic.

The 145th IOC Session took place at the Milan Convention Center, ahead of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, which begin this Friday, February 6, with the Opening Ceremony at San Siro Stadium.
