SAN SALVADOR.- Weightlifter Yenny Álvarez prepared to make her debut in style at the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Alvarez, world champion in 2022, had never competed in the most important sporting event in the region, had an extraordinary letter of introduction in San Salvador 2023, winning two gold medals and setting two new records in the category of 59 kilograms of the games.

“I came mentally prepared for this. I trained every day to take on all the challenges that could arise in the competition,” said the smiling Alvarez.

Yenny won gold in the snatch with 99 kilograms and 130 kilograms in the rebound, becoming the absolute champion in her division.

The world champion athlete expressed her joy at being in the Central American and Caribbean Games for the first time.

“I am very happy to be here for the first time and I am very happy to give my country these two gold medals,” said the new 59 kg champion in the regional sporting event.
