MEXICO SWEEPS MODERN PENTATHLON; WINS FIVE MEDALS
SANTO DOMINGO.- The Mexicans closed the competition of the Modern Pentathlon conquering the five medals disputed in the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, which is being played in Santo Domingo, as a sub venue.
The day that took place this Wednesday in the relay modalities in the women’s and men’s categories, sentenced the superiority of the Mexican delegation in this edition of the Games.
The sisters Mayan and Catherine Oliver dominated the regional tournament at full capacity.
The Oliver sisters led the score with 1,284, beating by 18 points the representatives of Centro Caribe Sports, Sophia Hernandez and Sofia Cabrera.
The bronze went to Cuba’s Diana Leyva Dinza and Delmis Perez with 1,216.
The laser run competition was decided in the last lap, after a constant siege by Cabrera to the younger Oliver.
Catherine Oliver assured that this tournament is the most special she has experienced in her young career.
“Competing with my sister and winning will be something I will never forget. Without Mayan’s support and experience we would not win this medal,” said Oliver, shortly after receiving the gold medal.
Mexico’s representatives won gold medals in the men’s and women’s individual medals, Mayan Oliver and Emiliano Hernandez, respectively, and the same color in the mixed relay. The pair was composed by Mariana Arceo and Duilio Carrillo.
Meanwhile, Mexicans Emiliano Hernandez and Manuel Padilla, won the gold metal with 1,442 points, while Léster del Rosario and Marcos Rojas, from Cuba, came in second with 1,395 points.
Jose Miguel Molina and Andres Fernandez, from Centro Caribe Sports, finished third with 1,348.
