PUERTO RICO WOMEN’S NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM STARTS ROUTE TO PARIS 2024

The Puerto Rico Women’s Basketball National Preselection Team begins its trip to Europe on Tuesday to begin its preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, an event that for the women’s tournament is scheduled for July 28.

According to a press release from the Basketball Federation of the Island of Enchantment, the team includes Pamela Rosado, Arella Guirantes, Tayra Meléndez, Mya Hollingshed, Trinity San Antonio, Brianna Jones, India Pagán, Isalys Quiñones, Sofía Roma, Jacqueline Benítez, Ahlana Smith, Mariah Pérez and Allison Gibson, and they are coached by Jerry Batista.

This Tuesday they travel to Poland, where they will participate in a tournament to be held from 12 to 14 next. There they will play against the host country, Germany and Portugal.

Then, on July 18 and 20, the Olympians will travel to Spain to participate in two exhibition matches, both against Canada. The following day, on July 21, they will join the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee Training Center (COPUR) in Dijon, France, where most of the 52 athletes qualified by Puerto Rico will be concentrated. There they will have their last friendly against Nigeria on July 24.

Finally, the women’s basketball team will make its entrance to the Olympic Village on July 25, and then parade in the Opening Ceremony of Paris 2024.

COMPETITION CALENDAR

The first commitment of this set will be on Sunday, July 28 at 3:00 pm against Serbia. On Wednesday, July 31, they will play against Spain and on Saturday, August 3, against China, both games at 5:00 a.m. (Puerto Rican time).

For Puerto Rico’s women’s basketball, it would represent the second consecutive occasion in which they qualify for the Olympic Games.
