VICTORIA GARZA: THE OLYMPIC DIVER WHO INSPIRES TWO NATIONS

At 21 years old, Victoria Garza, Mexico’s outstanding diver, will go to an Olympic Games, but not representing her native country, but rather representing the flag of the Dominican Republic. Bowed by the lack of support from the Mexican Swimming Federation, being hosted by the Dominican team.

Born in Coahuila, Mexico, Garza from an early age showed passion for the sport being gymnastics her first choice, but it was not until the age of 11 when a diving coach discovered her and subsequently motivating her to change her discipline. Without knowing how to swim, she quickly excelled on the diving board, training with Rolando Prieto at the Monterrey sports city.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND OLYMPIC PREPARATION

The Mexican is preparing to face the Olympic Games in the 10-meter platform.

“I am very grateful to God, I have really done a lot in such a short time,” were Garza’s words during a conversation for HUELLAS, an initiative of Centro Caribe Sports.

In addition, he expressed his excitement and recounted the moment he received the confirmation of his participation in Paris 2024.

“I was sleeping, just here it was 6:30 in the morning when I just got the news,” said Garza.

“I went to hug my parents was the first thing I did, and they were very happy, super proud of this achievement,” he shared, reflecting the emotion in his words.

PHYSICAL PREPARATION

The routine of the daughter of Dominican parents, maintains a strict routine that includes waking up early, without skipping breakfast, to work in the gym to work with weights, in addition to preparing very well the abdomen and open with the gym in dry diving, with her coach who has her personal routine.

FEELINGS

Expressing a deep pride for her Mexican roots, Garza feels grateful for the sporting home she has found in the Dominican Republic.
