OLYMPIC SFOOTBAL: EGYPT AND DOMINICAN REPUBLIC TO KICK OFF COMPETITION AT PARIS 2024

Jul 24, 2024

The soccer teams of Egypt and Dominican Republic will play in the first day of competitions prior to the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games today at 11 am (Dominican Republic time), at La Beaujoire Stadium, located in the city of Nantes, France.

Both teams belong to Group C, which also includes Uzbekistan and Spain, who will also face each other today at the La Beaujoire Stadium in Nantes, France.
will also face each other today at 1:00 PM.

It will be two days before the inauguration of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games that soccer will make its debut. Ibai Gomez will have the technical direction of this U23 team that will make history for Dominican soccer.

“The truth is that the first call surprised me a little because as much as it is the 14th season as a coach, as a career I am starting now,” said Gomez in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

The Dominican National Soccer Team qualified for Paris in the CONCACAF qualifier held in July 2022, where they finished as runner-up in that tournament. For this Olympic party, Gomez called 18 players who have the physique and technique, looking to take advantage of it in a new scenario for the Quiqueyans.

For its part, Egypt had not been to the Olympic Games for 76 years, after London 1948. The Egyptian team, coached by Rogério Micale, is made up of a great group of players who, with their international experience, are looking to surpass their record of Paris 1924, where they reached the Quarterfinals.

These teams do not have a history of meetings, but both will take the field looking to defend their Olympic dream.
