MONTES DE OCA INSCRIBES ITS NAME IN OLYMPIC GAMES

Ángel Montes de Oca lived one of the most important moments of his career as an athlete, when he scored the first goal for the Dominican national soccer team, in the match in which the Dominican team lost by one goal to three, against Spain, a match held this Saturday, July 27, at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium in Bordeaux.

After a corner kick by Edison Azcona, Montes de Oca headed the ball into the net and scored the first goal for the Dominican Republic in the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, in the 37th minute of action.

For Spain, the scorers were Fermín López, in addition to Alex Baena and Jo Pacheco, thus qualifying the Spanish team for these games by winning their first two matches in group C in the preliminary phase.

The first half for both teams was very good at the defensive level, carrying out very well the plans of their technical directors.

In the 24th minute, Lopéz took advantage of a mistake by the Dominican goalkeeper, Enrique Bösl, to score the 0-1 in favor of the Spaniards.

The Dominican Republic’s response came at 37′, with a set piece sent by Edison Azcona to the area, which the Cibao FC player in the Dominican Soccer League, Montes de Oca headed into the Spanish goal, scoring the first Dominican goal in the Olympics, taking the match 1-1 at halftime.

The Dominicans played the entire second half of the match with one player down after Azcona was sent off with a straight red card.

After several attempts to score, Baena scored at 55′ and the Spanish stands exploded with euphoria for the 1-2.

Spain was already beginning to taste the victory when, at 70′, they scored the goal that defined the game for the Eurocup champion team.

The Dominican Republic’s third game will be on Tuesday against Uzbekistan, at 9:00 a.m., to close the preliminary phase of the men’s soccer tournament in Paris 2024.
