The city of Panama, with a day dedicated to Women’s Leadership in Sports, marked the closing of the Centennial Summit of Centro Caribe Sports, signaling the beginning of the commemoration of the oldest sports organization in the region. The organization’s Executive Committee expressed gratitude to Pandeportes and the Panama Olympic Committee for supporting and making this major event possible for the 37 attending countries.

A total of 22 presentations, 4 workshops, and 4 conclusion sessions highlighted the academic achievements left by the exchange of knowledge, debates, and analyses among global sports and Olympic movement specialists and experts.

Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of Centro Caribe Sports, emphasized the conclusion of a year full of celebrations for the region, but above all, the significance of having an academic space for growth and commitment on vital topics for sports management, such as governance, sustainability, the environment, and women in sports. “The memories of these 4 days will, in many ways, connect with the world in several languages. Thank you, Panama,” he stated.

Being closer to National Olympic Committees (NOCs) every day and reconstructing their memories are part of the 2025 challenges for the Central American and Caribbean organization.

In a presentation, President Mejía Oviedo explained how 2025 will begin by creating technological services and infrastructure for the NOCs. “We have approved a communication platform that will remain closely connected to them, to the daily activities of each Committee, through partnerships with media outlets and regional correspondents in different languages. An editorial fund will be responsible for digitizing the historical memory of our countries and their achievements throughout 100 years of the organization,” he explained.

Through this summit, we looked to the past to recognize the milestones that have transformed our organization while envisioning an even more promising future. This event serves as a platform to forge alliances, consolidate strategies, and open new opportunities. Such was the spirit of every presentation during the closing day dedicated to Women’s Leadership in Sports.

María José Alcalá, the first woman to preside over the Mexican Olympic Committee, shared her experiences transitioning from an athlete to a sports leader.

Likewise, Dominican athlete Niverka Marte discussed how athletes must break barriers and progressively take on leadership roles in sports beyond their areas of competition.

Dayanara Salazar Mejía, Programs Coordinator for Panama – UN Women, concluded alongside a distinguished panel of NOC leaders, sharing strategies for empowering and integrating women into sports organizations.

The Centennial Summit of Centro Caribe Sports in Panama stands as the most significant sporting event in the Central Caribbean region, bringing together leaders, athletes, and experts to drive sports development in member countries. This historic event celebrates a century of achievements and collaboration, fostering new alliances and strategies that strengthen the impact of sports in the community and create opportunities for regional talent.
