Alejandra Orozco Honored at the Panam Sports Athletes’ Forum 2024
The Mexican diver, who announced her retirement after Paris 2024, received this well-deserved recognition at the III Continental Athletes’ Forum held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
More than 90 athletes from across the continent are participating in this forum, which featured presentations on Olympic Solidarity and Artificial Intelligence during its first day.
With the presence of the Panam Sports Executive Committee, sports authorities from the Dominican Republic, IOC representatives, and more than 90 athletes and former athletes from across the continent, the III Continental Athletes’ Forum is underway in Punta Cana.
The first day began with a formal opening session where key authorities welcomed all the athletes. Following this, Olivier Niamkey, Associate Director of Olympic Solidarity, and Silvia Lucciarini, Project Manager, presented on Olympic Solidarity.
Next, Gonzalo Zarza, Chief Data Officer of Sportian, gave an engaging update on Artificial Intelligence and its applications in sports and for athletes.
The most emotional moment of the first day undoubtedly came at the end of the formal session when the Panam Sports Executive Committee presented the “Sports Career Award” to Olympic and Pan American diving medalist Alejandra Orozco from Mexico. Orozco, who decided to retire from high-level competition after participating in Paris 2024, received this special distinction.
“I am very honored, happy, and proud to receive this recognition. I feel a lot of nostalgia for everything I experienced in my career—the triumphs, the defeats, everything I went through to reach this point. This award means so much to me and motivates me to continue sharing my experiences and inspiring the next generations. I started as a volunteer with a dream, and to be ending my career this way makes me very happy. Thank you, Panam Sports, for this recognition,” said Alejandra Orozco.
“Alejandra means so much to sports in the Americas. She is an example of hard work, perseverance, resilience, and love for the sport. When she announced her retirement from high-level competition, we immediately thought of honoring her and saying thank you for everything she has given. And what better way to do it than here among her peers at the Panam Sports Athletes’ Forum,” stated President Neven Ilic.
The Panam Sports Athletes’ Forum continues until Saturday, November 23, with the participation of more than 20 speakers and over 90 athletes from across the continent.
