ATHLETES FROM THE CENTRAL AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN SHONE AT THE OPENING OF PARIS 2024

For almost four hours and under the rain, Paris 2024 offered an opening show for its Olympic Games that was full of art and controversy and broke all the schemes. At the opening party, the member delegations of Centro Caribe Sports had an unforgettable participation.

Showbiz luminaries such as Lady Gaga and Celine Dion shone at a gala that paid tribute to women and featured fashion, but had one of the most emotional moments when Zinedine Zidane handed the Torch to Rafael Nadal.

For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, an opening ceremony did not take place in a sports venue. This time, 86 boats carried 6,800 athletes on their six-kilometer journey along the Seine River, covering emblematic areas of the French capital.

Among them were the Central American athletes, who filled the original parade with color and joy and were not affected by the weather and the water conditions of the Seine. With ponchos and umbrellas they waved cheerfully as they were given a warm welcome by the 320,000 spectators who braved the bad weather in the streets of Paris.

Political personalities and world sports leaders witnessed this innovative proposal. One of these was Luis Mejia, the president of Centro Caribe Sports, who offered statements this Friday before the opening party of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“The day of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games arrives and here we are, with much enthusiasm and much organization, Paris has given everything possible to show not only the greatness of its country, its values, everything that identifies it; but also the respect and Olympic values. Here are all the nations, many with their Heads of State and here we go with the Olympic rings to have the best of all our athletes to make the Games the ideal scenario for the Olympic truce, the truce of peace,” said the IOC Member.

After the celebration, the athletes of the region are getting ready for the beginning of a 17-day battle in which they expect to be the protagonists of many celebrations.
