AWITI AWARDS FIRST OLYMPIC MEDAL TO MEXICAN JUDO

As if it were written for a television series, Prisca Awiti Alcaraz, has achieved what the Mexican delegation has been longing for, and with the hope of being materialized in these Olympic Games of Paris 2024, and that was to conquer the first medal for Mexican judo in all its Olympic history.

Awiti, who competes in the 63 kg category, had to battle in five fights, all held on Tuesday, July 30, at the Champ-de-Mars Arena, in the city of Paris, with the presence of all her fellow members of the delegation and some fans and Mexicans who traveled to France to enjoy these games.

In her first fight, in the Round of 32, Prisca defeated by Ippon the representative of the Refugee Team, Nigara Shaheen, then she defeated by Wazzari in the Round of 16, the Polish Angelika Szymanska, and the same happened in the Quarterfinals but in Golden Score, the representative of Austria, Lubjana Piovesana, securing the first medal for her country.

Prisca had no problems in the semifinals, beating the Croatian Katarina Kristo, however, she lost in the final to the Slovakian Andreja Leski.

This is Mexico’s second medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, after the bronze medal won by the Women’s Archery Team.
