Press CCS | Juan Guerra
Olympic weightlifting veteran Beatriz Pirón from the Dominican Republic was crowned Pan American champion in the 53 kg category after delivering the best lifts on the platform at the 2025 Continental Championship in Cali, Colombia.
Pirón lifted 91 kg in the snatch to claim her first gold medal. She then attempted to break the Pan American record with 94 kg, but the attempt was unsuccessful. In the clean and jerk, she faced a tough battle with Buenos Aires 2018 Olympic champion, Venezuelan Katherin Echandia, who took the gold in that lift with 112 kg. Pirón managed to lift 110 kg, securing a total of 201 kg, which earned the Dominican Republic the overall championship in the 53 kg category.
The native of San Pedro de Macorís has become a prominent figure in weightlifting, known for her resilience and leadership among Dominican athletes. Pirón is the only Dominican athlete to compete in four Olympic Games, where she has earned three Olympic diplomas. Her championship performance qualifies her for the World Weightlifting Championships to be held in Norway this October.
