SAN SALVADOR.- The president of the Organizing Committee of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 (COSSAN), Yamil Bukele, toured different sports venues to verify the progress of the works, in view of the regional sports event that begins next June 23.

“We are very happy, really, for the progress of the work in the National Stadium Jorge (El Mágico) González, as it is quite significant. I think we are about 50% in the financial part and 40% in the infrastructure or execution work, that contemplating, as the contractors tell me, that all the sports equipment is already requested and that would considerably increase the execution of the work and the percentage of development of the same”, Bukele explained.

The head of COSSAN emphasized that this scenario, which is part of the prioritized ones intervened thanks to the financing of up to $115.2 million granted by BCIE, means a lot for Salvadorans, and especially for the Organizing Committee, since it will be the venue for the opening and closing of the event, and for the different modalities of athletics.

“I am happy with the type of grass that will be used, which is Bermuda. Many Salvadorans asked, I can confirm that it is Bermuda and it will be imported from the United States. The drainage system is, it can be said, of the best, the lighting, the characteristics of the stands, the entire seating system will be installed in 100% of the stadium’s sports scenario”, he mentioned.

According to Bukele, observing the progress of the works gives him peace of mind that the project will be completed within the estimated timeframe.

“Effectively it is to give peace of mind to the entire population and not only peace of mind that the works are being executed in time and form, but also that the commitment of the government of President Nayib Bukele to dignify our greatest national and international soccer exponent, Jorge (El Mágico) González, who in life, first God, can inaugurate the remodeling of this sports scenario that bears his name, and of course, that El Salvador can have worthy sports scenarios, not only for local use, but also to project our country at international level”, he said.

Regarding the rest of the sports venues he visited (El Polvorín Sports Complex, Flor Blanca Sports Complex and Ciudad Merliot Sports Complex), the president assured that progress is beginning to show.

Bukele sent a message to give confidence to all athletes, leaders, coaches and fans in general.

“I can summarize that to date today we are satisfied with the progress in all sports venues and here is not to sleep, but to go hand in hand with contractors, with supervisors, so that everything is in time and form for the sporting event”, told.
