Central America and the Caribbean rule in Rome: Ricketts, Perez, and LaFond lead the women’s triple jump
The Diamond League once again highlighted the women’s triple jump this Friday at Rome’s Olympic Stadium. The competition confirmed the dominance of Central America and the Caribbean in the discipline. Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts won with a leap of 14.64 meters (-0.7), her best mark of the season. Thus, she prevailed at the fifth stop of the world athletics elite circuit.
Ricketts opened the competition strongly by landing her winning jump on the first attempt, allowing her to manage the event intelligently. Her other valid times were 14.40 m on the third attempt and 13.92 m on the closing attempt.
22-year-old Cuban Leyanis Pérez Hernández finished in second place thanks to a leap of 14.46 meters (-0.8), achieved on her third attempt. Pérez achieved another valid jump on the fifth attempt with 11.53 m.
Third place went to Paris 2024 Olympic champion Thea LaFond of Dominica, who got off to a strong start with a 14.30m (-0.1m) on her first jump. Although she failed to improve her time on subsequent attempts, she remained among the best.
This stop in Rome, the fifth of the 2025 Diamond League calendar, consolidates three Caribbean stars on the podium. The next stop on the circuit will be held in Oslo, where the top track and field athletes will continue to fine-tune their preparations for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.
