CENTRAL AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN BOXING WITH PRIDE IN PARIS 2024
With more than 20 boxers qualified for the boxing events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Central America and Caribbean region will be represented in the ring at this summer’s multi-sport event. This is one of the most significant events in any multi-sport competition, including the Central American and Caribbean Games, Pan American Games, and Bolivarian Games, as is the case for the member countries of Centro Caribe Sports.
Twenty-two boxers, twelve men and ten women, have secured spots for their respective countries through various qualification processes. The most recent qualification event took place in Bangkok, Thailand, where three boxers earned their coveted tickets to France.
Since the London 2012 Games, Central America and the Caribbean have consistently fielded over twenty boxers in the Olympic Games. This trend continues with Paris 2024, where from July 27 to August 10, athletes will fight for regional pride and the honor of bearing their countries’ flags on their chests, all in pursuit of sporting glory.
The number of qualified boxers could increase once the final list of those competing via the Universality quota is officially announced, as several categories have yet to assign these slots.
WHO WILL COMPETE IN BOXING AT PARIS 2024?
Let’s review which athletes, countries, and categories have qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and identify the divisions that still need to assign Universality quota places to complete the respective categories.
Currently, only the men’s 51-kilogram category has announced the athlete who will fill the Universality quota for boxing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The olympic debutants
Despite Olympic slots in boxing being exclusive to National Olympic Committees (NOCs), NOCs usually allow the athletes who secure the qualifications to compete in the Olympic Games. Therefore, we anticipate naming those boxers who would make their debut this summer.
We have noted that 16 of the 22 qualified athletes, excluding Universality places, will be debuting at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: ten male boxers and six female pugilists, representing a source of pride for each athlete and their respective National Olympic Committees.
Each of these 16 boxers will start to make their mark in Olympic history when they step into the ring at the North Paris Arena. The other six will continue to extend their sporting legacies, especially the two-time Olympic champions, Cuban boxers Julio César La Cruz and Arlen López.
Similarly, another athlete who will be building her Olympic legacy is the Olympic bronze medalist, Ingit Valencia of Colombia, along with historic pugilists Atheyna Bylon from Panama, María Moronta from the Dominican Republic, and Yeni Arias from Colombia.
