CENTRO CARIBE SPORTS AND SANTO DOMINGO 2026 ANNOUNCE DATE FOR CENTENNIAL GAMES

SANTO DOMINGO.- Centro Caribe Sports and the Organizing Committee of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, Santo Domingo 2026, announce that the regional sporting event will be staged from July 24 to August 8.

For this 16-day sports festival, 413 events are expected to take place, with the participation of more than 6,000 athletes from the 37 member delegations of Centro Caribe Sports.

The information was released through a press release by Luis Mejia Oviedo, President of the organization that hosts the countries of Central America and the Caribbean, and Jose P. Monegro, President of Santo Domingo 2026.

This date designation is confirmed more than two years before the National Olympic Committees, members of the regional sports organization, can schedule their events prior to the Games.

The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, Santo Domingo 2026, coincide with the Centennial of the sporting event, which had its first edition in Mexico City in 1926, in addition to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Centro Caribe Sports, under the name of ODECABE/CACSO.

Luis Mejía Oviedo, President of Centro Caribe Sports, valued the work done by the Organizing Committee, from its assignment as sub-host in seven sports of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games, San Salvador 2023, to the qualifying events for the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024 that are held in Santo Domingo, where the venues that were intervened by the local organization are used.

Mejía said that Centro Caribe Sports, as owner of the Central American and Caribbean Games, supports the Organizing Committee in all stages until the conclusion of the 25th version of the sporting event, as well as the joint work of the commemoration of the Centennial of this event.

The IOC Member also thanked the support provided by the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, for the realization of the oldest regional games in the world, for the third time in the Caribbean nation.

José P. Monegro, President of the Santo Domingo 2026 Organizing Committee, informed that more than 30 sports and some 60 disciplines will compete in the games.

With the assignment of the date of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, Santo Domingo 2026, four major events are confirmed for that year, including the Winter Olympic Games, Milano 2026, the World Cup and the Youth Olympic Games, Dakar 2026.
