Ciro Solano re-elected as president of the Colombian Olympic Committee

Ciro Solano will continue to lead the Colombian Olympic Committee (COC) for the period 2025-2029, after being re-elected this Monday in the internal elections of the entity.

Solano, who has been a key figure in the promotion and development of sport in Colombia, faced Francisco Cañón, who was nominated by the Colombian Badminton Federation. The contest resulted in a resounding victory for Solano, who received 53 votes compared to only three for his opponent.

Regarding the other leadership positions within the COC, José Luis Echeverry was elected as first vice president, also obtaining 53 votes, which reflects the support for his management and abilities to occupy this role. Meanwhile, Irma Ruiz Gutiérrez was elected as second vice president with 47 votes, reaffirming her commitment to the development of sport at a national level.

The general secretary, Ana Edurne Camacho, will continue in her position, having obtained 55 votes in this new election, which demonstrates the confidence placed in her organizational and administrative capacity. Jorge Franco also remains in his role as treasurer of the COC with 53 votes, which underlines the financial stability and transparency under his management.

On the other hand, the elected members were Miriam Leonor Suárez González (8 votes), Helmut Bellingrodt (10 votes), Mauricio Vargas Carreño (11 votes) and Juan Luis Zapata Fuscaldo (10 votes), who, with their experience and knowledge, will contribute to strengthening the structure and strategies of the Colombian Olympic Committee.

Finally, Hélder Navarro was re-elected as COC’s chief prosecutor, receiving a total of 52 votes. His role will be key to ensuring compliance with regulations and the correct management of resources within the Olympic entity.
