Damaris Young appointed to the Coordination Commission for the 2030 Winter Olympic Games
Centro Caribe Sports Press – October 22, 2025
Panamanian sports leader Damaris Young, President of the Panamanian Olympic Committee (COP) and member of the Executive Committee of Centro Caribe Sports, has been officially appointed by the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Kirsty Coventry, as a member of the Coordination Commission for the XXVI Olympic Winter Games – French Alps 2030.
This appointment once again recognizes Young’s outstanding career, leadership, and commitment within the international Olympic Movement.
“We are honored by this designation, which will allow us to be part of the planning and supervision of one of the most significant sporting events in the Olympic Movement,” said Damaris Young after receiving the news.
Commitment and Leadership
A lawyer, manager, and advocate for sports governance, Young has dedicated her career to strengthening institutional transparency, inclusion, and women’s leadership in sports.
In 2024, Damaris Young made history in Panamanian Olympism by being elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), becoming the first woman from Panama to achieve this honor. Her active participation within the organization extends to the IOC’s Legal Affairs and Athlete Environment Commissions — responsibilities that reflect her dedication to developing policies that promote integrity, protection, and athlete welfare at a global level, values that also guide her work within the Executive Committee of Centro Caribe Sports.
Under her leadership, Panama has strengthened its sports institutions, its presence in international forums, and its commitment to Olympic values, setting a precedent for future generations of sports leaders and athletes.
“Equality, transparency, and inclusion are the values that guide each of my sports programs,” she stated in 2024 upon becoming a member of the International Olympic Committee.
A Woman Who Inspires the Region
Her appointment is also a symbol of the progress women are making in decision-making positions within global sports. With each step, Damaris Young represents the collective effort of Caribbean and Central American women working to build a better world through sports.
