SANTO DOMINGO.- Young students and athletes in the Dominican Republic joined in the celebration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace over the weekend, to leave their footprints in the day of waste collection on the coast of the Malecón de la Playa Güibia, located in Santo Domingo.

The ecological footprint promoted by the philosophy of the Olympic movement, is one of the principles lived last Saturday, which seeks to add more positive actions every day in the preservation of the environment.

“It is a unique experience for us to be part of this ecological day”, said one of the students of the Montessori School.

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, is celebrated annually on April 6, proclaimed by a resolution of the United Nations Organization (UN) last August 23, 2013, to be celebrated from next year.

According to the UN resolution, this day is to raise awareness and recognize the positive role of sport and physical activity in communities and in the lives of people around the world, as well as the promotion of human rights and economic and social development.

The theme for 2024 is “Sport as a tool to promote peaceful and inclusive societies”.

Centro Caribe Sports joins the celebration with the HUELLAS campaign, a space for action and documentation of inspiration where athletes, leaders and coaches come together.
