El Salvador is ready for the Games

The President of Centro Caribe Sports, Luis Mejía, indicated in a press conference with the media in the Dominican Republic, that El Salvador is ready for the celebration of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games.

For more than 40 minutes, Mejia addressed the local and international media, the latter connected through the ZOOM platform.

San Salvador, host city of the oldest regional Games in the world, will host 31 of the 37 sports in dispute, where the Dominican Republic will host the actions of the other six.

In the meeting with the media, the IOC member also detailed that 46 of the 53 sports disciplines will be disputed in the Central American country, in addition to the fact that 22 sports venues will be used (5 in the Dominican Republic) and 47 sports venues (6 in the sub-venue).

Mejía also revealed that athletes of the stature of Marileidy Paulino, Yulimar Rojas, Mariana Pajon, Keshorn Walcott, Nicholas Paul, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Roberto Hernandez, Sara López, among other Olympic and World Cup medalists, will compete in the regional event.

He also stressed the importance of athletes competing in the Games, as it is a qualifier for the Pan American Games in Santiago in 2023, and for track and field athletes, it will serve to obtain direct tickets to the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

The Games will be inaugurated on June 23 at the Jorge “El Mágico” González National Stadium, but table tennis and beach volleyball will begin on June 21, while boxing will start its preliminary phase on June 22.
