

Eliza Denning Gives Bahamas Historic Gold in Sailing at Asunción 2025
Prensa Centro Caribe Sports – August 17, 2025.- At just 17 years old, Bahamian Eliza Denning became the junior Pan American champion this Sunday by winning the gold medal in the ILCA 6 women’s sailing class, after five very demanding races at San José de Encarnación Beach, at the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games.
Denning accumulated 31 total points, consolidating her lead in the overall standings and giving Bahamas its first gold medal in this edition of the Games. The young sailor demonstrated her discipline and perseverance against high-level continental rivals.

She shared the podium with Guatemalan Cristina Castellanos, who earned the silver medal with 20 total points, giving Guatemala an outstanding performance that positions the country as a leading sailing player in Central America.
Peru’s Florencia Chiarella, also with 20 points, took bronze on a tiebreaker, completing the podium.
The result represents a new boost for Central America and the Caribbean, which continues to gain ground in continental nautical sports.
The Junior Pan American Games will be held until August 23, bringing together more than 4,000 athletes from 41 countries in a competition that projects the future of Olympic sport in the region.
