FIVE ATHLETES FROM THE REGION NOMINATED TO THE ATHLETES COMMISSION IOC

The Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has released the list of 32 athletes nominated to fill the four available slots to be chosen in Paris during this summer’s Olympic Games, where five of them are part of the member countries of Centro Caribe Sports.

They are Enrique Arathoon of El Salvador (sailing), Emiliano Hernández Uscanga of Mexico (modern pentathlon), Mulern Jean of Haiti (athletics), Melissa Mojica of Puerto Rico (judo) and Mariana Pajón of Colombia (BMX racing).

The universe of eligible athletes is made up of 18 women and 14 men from 15 sports and 32 different National Olympic Committees (NOCs).

These five athletes, four of them active, will compete for one of the places of Daniel Gyurta of Hungary (swimming), Britta Heidermann of Germany (fencing), Yelena Isinbaeva of Russia (athletics) and Seung-min Ryu of South Korea (table tennis), who were elected during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

All athletes officially competing in Paris 2024 are eligible to vote at the Athlete 365 House within the Olympic Village, where these elections will be supervised by the Election Committee appointed by IOC President Thomas Bach.

MEMBERS OF THE ELECTION COMMISSION

International Olympic Committee (IOC) Vice-President Nicole Hoevertsz will be chairing the group of three leaders of the Olympic movement for this activity, and will be the representative of the IOC Legal Affairs Commission.

Hoevertsz is joined by Pâquerette Girard Zappelli, as IOC Ethics and Compliance Officer, and Emma Thermo, as representative of the IOC Athletes’ Commission.
