FUTURE CENTRAL AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN GAMES PRESENTED REPORTS TO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF CENTRO CARIBE SPORTS
SANTO DOMINGO.- The Organizing Committees of the II Central American and Caribbean Beach Games, Puntarenas 2025 to be held in Costa Rica, and of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, Santo Domingo 2026 in the Dominican Republic, presented their reports to the Executive Committee during the session held this Saturday, March 16.
The meeting was held virtually, with the presence of all the members of the Executive Board of the regional sports organization, which this year will reach its centenary.
The meeting, which lasted a little over two hours, had the participation of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC), defined by Luis Mejía Oviedo and Keith Joseph, Presidents of both regional sports organizations, as “important, valuable and very beneficial for the countries of the Caribbean region.
In this call, Steve Stoute, Honorary President of Centro Caribe Sports, gave a report on the obituary in memory of Judy Simons, former executive of this organization and former President of the Bermuda Olympic Association, where a message from President Luis Mejía Oviedo was read.
During the executive session, President Mejía pointed out that work is underway for the celebration of the organization’s Centennial, which is expected to take place prior to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Puntarenas 2025
During the Puntarenas 2025 report, Alexander Zamora, President of the Costa Rican Olympic Committee, expressed that the local entity will also be the Organizing Committee of the games.
Fanny Huezo, member of the delegation of the II Central American and Caribbean Beach Games, was in charge of the presentation of the inform, where they indicated the proposal of the date of the regional beach sports event, as well as the possible sports and scenarios where the events will take place.
This delegation was also composed of Henry Núñez, director of the Games and Nadia Chinchilla.
Santo Domingo 2026
Felipe Vicini, liaison of the Organizing Committee of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, Santo Domingo 2026 and the Executive Committee of the organization, gave a detailed report on the activities of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), including the announcement of the logo and the kick-off ceremony for the renovation of the 2026 venues.
At the same time, the official report on the date of the Games, presented by José P. Monegro, President of the Organizing Committee, and Luis Mejía Oviedo, which will be held from July 24 to August 8, 2026, among other topics, was also cited.
CANOC
Keith Joseph, President of CANOC, who was accompanied by several members of this sports organization, thanked the invitation of Centro Caribe Sports to this session, where the sports leader discussed several points, which included an exchange of collaboration between the organizations.
This meeting is part of the policy of Centro Caribe Sports, to have CANOC and the Central American Sports Organization (ORDECA) as working arms, because the member countries of both organizations are also part of Centro Caribe Sports.
Both Luis Mejia and Keith Joseph agreed that these organizations can join some work commissions.
Joseph talked about the II Caribbean Games 2025, in addition to requesting the inclusion of Cricket for the Santo Domingo 2026 Games, a sport that will return for the Olympic Games in the Los Angeles 2028 edition.
Also, CANOC members expressed the desire that the organization values equal voting among all its members, and not to continue with the current format, where the countries that have hosted the Central American and Caribbean Games have two votes.
