HISTORIC MALONEY IN THE WOMEN’S 800 FINAL AT PARIS 2024
Shafiqua Maloney of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, will be competing in the final of the women’s 800 meters in athletics at the Stade de France, becoming the first athlete from her country to compete in an Olympic final.
Maloney, who was the flag bearer of her delegation at the Opening Ceremony of Paris 2024, will be on the purple track this Monday, August 5, in a race scheduled for 9:47 p.m. local time (3:47 p.m. in her country).
To reach this stage, Shafiqua took third place in heat five with a time of 1:58.23, setting a new national record, and in the semifinals, she placed second with a time of 1:57.59, setting a new national record in this event.
With Maloney in the final, St. Vincent and the Grenadines hopes to win its first Olympic medal.
