IOC Recommends Boxing’s Inclusion at Los Angeles 2028

Mar 17, 2025

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board has recommended boxing’s inclusion at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, ending years of uncertainty over the sport’s future on the Olympic program.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said Monday that the executive board he leads has approved the sport’s inclusion. However, the decision still needs to be ratified by the body’s full assembly, made up of approximately 100 members, which is expected to happen this week. However, this process is usually a mere formality.

The IOC organized boxing tournaments at the Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games after relations with the Russian-led International Boxing Association (IBA) deteriorated.

“I am very confident that the session will approve it, so that all boxers in the world can be certain that they will be able to participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games if their national federation is recognized by World Boxing,” the German official stated.

“All boxers in the world can be sure that they will be able to compete in the 2028 Games in Los Angeles,” he insisted.
