JULIEN ALFRED WINS HISTORIC OLYMPIC MEDAL IN PARIS 2024
Saint Lucia’s sprinter Julien Alfred won the gold medal in the women’s 100m at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games athletics tournament on a rainy night to add a little more excitement to the race, with a time of 10.72 and a headwind of 0.1 meters/second.
With this title, Alfred became the first athlete from her country to win an Olympic medal, making the feat achieved by the Caribbean athlete even more valuable.
Alfred, who also established a new national record with her time in the race, beat one of the favorites, American Sha’Carri Richardson, who clocked 10.87, and Melissa Jefferson, also from the United States, who finished in 10.92.
For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, Saint Lucia adds to the medal tally and is in a privileged position with the gold medal won by Julien Alfred.
