Jun 19, 2025

IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry has been speaking about her vision for the Olympic Movement as she prepares to officially lead the organization on June 23.

Coventry is making history by becoming the first woman, and the first African, to lead the International Olympic Committee. The IOC elected Coventry as its tenth president during the 144th Session held in Costa Navarino, Greece, in March. She succeeded Thomas Bach, president since 2013.

Her leadership style focuses on collaboration: she plans to host a two-day workshop for IOC members in Lausanne on June 24, with the aim of fostering open dialogue and achieving decisions with genuine support from the entire committee.

In short, her speech is marked by a clear commitment to authentic service, leadership, and a passion for using sport as a tool for social transformation and global unity.
