LEYANIS PÉREZ LEADS THE TRIPLE JUMP AT PARIS 2024

Cuba’s Leyanis Perez led five athletes from Central America and the Caribbean in the triple jump qualifying phase for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by jumping to 14.68 meters, qualifying for the grand final of the event to be held this Saturday.

After struggling on her first two attempts, Peréz was able to set a record that was difficult to approach on her third attempt.

The Stade de France hosted the world’s best triple jumpers, who had to reach the qualifying standard of at least 14.35 meters, or the 12 best marks, to qualify for the final.

FROM THE CENTRAL AMERICAN AND THE CARIBBEAN

Shanieka Ricketts of Jamaica, will be in the final, after jumping 14.47 meters, in her first jump and a headwind of 0.4, followed by Liadagmis Povea of Cuba, who joined the triple jump final with a jump of 14. 39m, in her first attempt and a headwind of 0.1 m/s, and Dominica’s Thea Lafond, who reached 14.35 meters, who was the seventh jumper to meet the minimum qualifying mark, in her second attempt with a 0.1 m/s headwind.

In the case of the Jamaican Ackelia Smith, she was the tenth best, with 14.09 meters and a headwind of 1.3 m/s on her third attempt.

The final of the women’s triple jump will be held this Saturday, August 3, scheduled for 8:30 p.m., French time.
