Marileidy Paulino among the best in Jamaica’s Grand Slam Track

The new athletics challenge kicked off with the 200 meters, where Central American and Caribbean athletes Marileidy Paulino (Dominican Republic), Nickisha Pryce, and Stacey Ann Williams (Jamaica) competed at the Kingston National Stadium.

Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist and Central American and Caribbean representative Marileidy Paulino finished second on the first day of competition in Jamaica with a time of 22.93, adding eight points to her standings.

American Harvard graduate Gabby Thomas, a two-time Olympic medalist (bronze in Tokyo 2020 and gold in Paris 2024), led the race with a time of 22.62, earning a score of 12.

British Olympian Dina Asher-smith finished third (22.96), earning six points.

Hosts Stacey Ann Williams and Nickisha Pryce placed seventh and eighth with times of 23.35 and 23.75.

Tomorrow (Saturday, April 5), they will return to action in the 400 meters at 8:21 p.m.

Kingston marks the start of four stages of the Grand Slam Track. Miami will be held from May 2-4, Philadelphia from May 30-June 1, and Los Angeles (June 27-29).

In each of the meetings, athletes will compete in two races, and can be placed depending on their result: 1st: 12 points, 2nd: 8 points, 3rd: 6 points, 4th: 5 points, 5th: 4 points, 6th: 3 points, 7th: 2 points and 8th: 1 point.
