MEMBER COUNTRIES OF CENTRO CARIBE SPORTS WIN FIG EXECUTIVE SEATS

Naomi Valenzo Aoki of Mexico and Edwin Rodriguez of the Dominican Republic were elected to the new Executive Committee of the International Gymnastics Federation during the elections held on October 25, during the 85th FIG Congress in Doha, Qatar, where Morinari Watanabe of Japan was re-elected President.

Valenzo, current President of the Pan American Gymnastics Union (PAGU), was elected Vice President of the organization, indicating that being in this position within the International Federation, is a privilege that can only result in gain for the countries of America within this sport, noting that the Vice Presidencies are granted with the votes of the members.

“For Mexico and for America this position is very important, because it is there where strategic decisions are made, decisions on how to promote gymnastics worldwide, how to distribute quotas for World Championships and Olympic Games qualification, including financial and marketing issues,” he said.

Naomi Valenzo is joined by Ali Al-Hitmi of Qatar and Suat Celen of Turkey as FIG Vice-President.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez, President of the Dominican Gymnastics Federation, is a member of the FIG Executive Committee, becoming the first Dominican to hold this position in the world governing body of gymnastics.

In addition to Edwin Rodríguez, other members of the Executive Committee are Qiurui Zhou of China, Li Li Leung of the United States, Vassily Titov of Russia, Jeffrey Thomson of Canada, Eirini Aindili of Greece and Srayuth Patanasak of Thailand.

LEADING MEMBER COUNTRIES OF CENTRO CARIBE SPORTS IN OTHER POSITIONS

Colombia, Nicaragua and Guatemala secured positions within the Pan American Gymnastics Union (PAGU) during the 85th FIG Congress in Doha, Qatar, when Juan Medina, Kenia Herrera and Patricia Diéguez, respectively, were confirmed as members of the PAGU, along with Brazilian Ricardo Cacho Resende.

Meanwhile, Steve Butcher of Trinidad and Tobago will be part of the Technical Commission for Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, while Angie Sanchez of Colombia and Jose Antonio Robles Jimarez of Mexico are members of the Technical Commission for Parkour.
