Jun 27, 2024

With 50 days to go until the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) was honored to present Alejandra Orozco and Emiliano Hernandez as the flag bearers of the delegation that will be sailing in the boats designated for the parade on the Seine River.

With this announcement, the COM becomes the first National Olympic Committee member of Centro Caribe Sports to announce this important news to the Olympic world.

Orozco, who is a double medalist in the Adult Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games, including a gold in Nanjing 2014, indicated feeling proud to be chosen to carry the flag on the opening night of the Games on July 26.

“For me it is an honor to carry the flag, and to represent the Mexican delegation. I know that we will be one that night,” said the Mexican diver.

On his side, Emiliano expressed on his Instagram social network a very emotional message, where he points out his love for the flag and pride to his nationality.

“Since I was a little boy I used to see you in elementary school, and I cry when I see you at soccer games. Even more, I get excited when in my competitions I hear our anthem and I see you in the skies, despite being on the other side of the world. I want to tell you that we will go all out in Paris,” he said on his Instagram account.

OLYMPIC HISTORY IN THE FLAG BEARERS

Alejandra Orozco has an Olympic success story, who even as a junior, won the silver medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games, in synchronized platform diving, along with her partner in that Olympic event, Paola Espinosa.

Two years later, Orozco qualified for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games, where she was the flag bearer of the Opening Ceremony for Mexico and won the gold medal in the mixed team with Daniel Jensen, and a bronze medal in the platform.

In Rio 2016 she was not able to reach the podium, however, she returned to position herself among the best three in Tokyo 2020, celebrated in 2021, together with her new partner, Gabriela Agúndez, in synchronized platform, and won the bronze medal.

In Emiliano’s case, he will be making his Olympic Games debut, starting August 8, until the last day of the Games, Sunday 11.

OTHER EVENTS OF ALEJANDRA AND EMILIANO

Alejandra Orozco has conquered other events in the Olympic cycle, such as the Pan American Games, in which she has five medals, including a gold medal, as well as World Series, Grand Prix and Diving World Cups.

Meanwhile, Emiliano Hernandez had an impressive 2023 with a silver medal in a World Championship in Great Britain, and his two titles as champion of the Pan American Games, Santiago 2023.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are scheduled from July 26 to August 11; however, men’s soccer and rugby 7-a-side will be starting their competitions on Wednesday, July 24.
