Jun 26, 2023

SANTO DOMINGO.- Mexico’s Emiliano Hernandez overcame the siege of his compatriot Duilio Carrillo to win on Monday the men’s individual modern pentathlon modality that took place in the sub-venue of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, in Santo Domingo.

Hernandez accumulated 1,503 points to win the gold medal in the competition held at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

The Aztec surpassed his compatriot Carrillo (1,493), who took the silver medal, and Cuba’s Ders del Rosario (1,467), winner of the bronze medal.

Hernandez, who was proud of the Mexican participation in this competition, pointed out that this triumph is the result of the joint work carried out with his work team and with the support of his family.

“There are 12 people who work with me every day, from my family, my girlfriend, my six coaches, nutritionist, psychologist, so this is a job that all of them do and I am just the face,” said Hernandez.

For his part, Carrillo, who left empty-handed in the last edition of this event, held in Barranquilla, Colombia, said he was “very happy” to win his first medal in the most important sporting event in the region.

“I am very happy for this achievement, it is my first medal, so I am very happy,” said the Mexican athlete, who highlighted the level of organization with which the competition was developed in the sub-venue.

As for Del Rosario, he said he was satisfied, since he and his team knew that the competition at the Central American level was going to be strong.

The modern pentathlon competitions continue this Tuesday, starting with the mixed relay equestrian event at 9:00 am at the Scuderia Ieromazzo in Santo Domingo Norte.
