Jul 30, 2024

Mexico has placed in the medal standings of these Olympic Games Paris 2024, obtaining its first medal, this time bronze by the women’s archery team.

After falling short of reaching the final in a tight semifinal against the People’s Republic of China, with an adverse result 3-5, the Mexican archers, Ángela Ruiz, Ana Paula Vázquez and Alejandra Valencia, recovered to defeat the Netherlands 6-2 and win the bronze medal.

This Mexican women’s archery team arrived at Paris 2024 among the favorites to reach the podium. Their efforts in passing the qualifying round as third in the overall score showed that the favoritism was true.

In the quarterfinals the obstacle was not easy at all, a German team, current world champions, whom they beat comfortably 5-1, succumbing as we have already pointed out in the semifinals against the People’s Republic of China.

This bronze medal is the first for women’s team archery in the history of the Olympic Games, adding up to the fourth medal for the specialty.

Previous Mexico Archery medals:

London 2012:

Aída Román (Mexico City), women’s individual silver.
Mariana Avitia (Monterrey), women’s individual bronze.

Tokyo 2020: Alejandra Valencia (Hermosillo) and Luis Álvarez Murillo (Mexicali), mixed team bronze.
