MIREYA LUIS: TOUCHING THE CEILING OF SUCCESS

Mireya Luis is recognized as one of the best volleyball players of all time. With three gold medals in the Olympic Games, she demonstrates the importance of believing in yourself, from the very beginning, to fulfill your dreams.

Luis may not have been an athlete, but his conviction in the pursuit of his happiness was much greater. His entry into the world of volleyball is inspiring and emblematic. During a tryout for a sports school, despite being ignored because of her short stature, Mireya approached the teacher and confidently declared: “I touch the ceiling”.

Before the teacher could respond, Mireya jumped and touched the ceiling, demonstrating her physical ability and daring. This marked the beginning of a stellar athletic career.

Little by little, Mireya gained experience and became a key piece of the Cuban national volleyball team, besides being Olympic champions, Cuba dominated with Luis’ leadership, in numerous world championships and international cups.

Mireya is an inspiration on and off the court. With her story she has pushed women to pursue their dreams regardless of physical or social obstacles. She is a reminder that you can achieve anything if you fight for it. She is a beacon of light and hope for the world.

OLYMPIC FOOTPRINTS OF MIREYA

Member of “Las Morenas del Caribe”, and important within the Cuban women’s volleyball roster, she was part of the Olympic medals of Barcelona 1992, winning this event undefeated, she was also with greater responsibility, in the Olympic titles of Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000.

Considered as one of the 10 best sportswomen in the history of Cuba, she was also medalist of the Central American and Caribbean Games in the Maracaibo 1998 edition, and in the Pan American Games, in five opportunities.

Luis’ footprints remain in the Olympic world, as he is currently a member of the NORCECA Executive Committee and the International Volleyball Federation.
