SANTO DOMINGO.- The Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 will mark a significant advance in the history of national sports.

For this event, the commitment of the organizers extends to leaving the competition areas in good condition, updating the sports system and also training the technicians and professionals of the Olympic movement.

In accordance with this objective, the Organizing Committee of the Games successfully closed the first sports management workshop, which was held from last Sunday until Tuesday morning.

The seminar consisted of 20 intensive hours of sports training, starting at 9:00 am and ending at 5:00 pm. It was given by managers Renato Ricci, Juan Domingo Barzola and Oscar Tejada, from the Peruvian Johan Cruyff Institute.

More than 50 professionals took advantage of the teaching, offered in the Juan Ulises García Saleta hall of the Dominican Olympic Committee.

“My hope is that when we finish the Central American Games we will be able to see a parade of World Cup events in each of the disciplines. That way we ensure that the future of our athletes is in good hands,” explained José Monegro, president of the Santo Domingo 2026 Organizing Committee.

The renowned journalist assured that this course will be replicated in the coming months due to the high number of technicians who ran out of places to take the course.

“At the beginning we planned to hold this workshop with 32 people, but we increased it to 52 due to the demand of professionals who wanted to participate. We are going to repeat it since the commitment is not only with the games, but with the national sports movement”, he added.

In addition to the workshop, the managers toured the different competition areas to assess their condition and functionality.
Renato Ricci, country manager of the Peruvian institute, assured that the country can host different multisport events if the leaders and the State provide good maintenance to the facilities.

“I understand that we left a good route for the Games. It was a brilliant experience, here there are technicians with enough recognition and it only remains to adjust some things to have one of the best Central American and Caribbean Games in the history of the Olympic cycle,” said Ricci, who was one of the technicians in charge of the Pan American Games of Lima 2019.

In addition to Monegro, the administrative director of Santo Domingo 2026, Thomas Polanco, also spoke at the meeting.

At the end of the workshop, the executives of the Games and the managers presented a certification diploma to the technicians and leaders who took the course.
