Apr 08, 2024

SANTO DOMINGO.- During the celebration of the First Stop of the Norceca Beach Volleyball Tour 2024, held in Playa Güibia, in the Dominican capital, Naomi Monney expressed with joy her desire to be a reference in this sport, and not limited to her native country, Guatemala, but also around the world.

Monney, who is making her debut in an adult beach volleyball team, expressed that she is doing what is necessary to perfect her game and help her partner, with whom she is playing as a pair for the first time in her career.

“I have played several NORCECA juniors, among them U19,” the young Guatemalan referred last Saturday to Centro Caribe Sports.

She also said that she is happy to receive and carry her flag in every tournament she competes, in addition to singing the anthem of Guatemala, after the International Olympic Committee (IOC), provisionally lifted the suspension on the National Olympic Committee, last March 19.

“I hope to leave a mark in my country and in volleyball, I know I can do it and I am working for it,” said Naomi.

During the Central American and Caribbean Games, San Salvador 2023 and the Pan American Games, Santiago 2023, athletes from Guatemala were able to compete, without the use of their patriotic symbols or the singing of the anthem, for the athletes who won the gold medal.

Following the IOC decision, for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, they will be able to parade in the Opening Ceremony on July 26, with the Guatemalan flag.
