MORE THAN 190 ATHLETES FROM CENTRO CARIBE SPORTS MEMBER COUNTRIES WILL COMPETE AT BUDAPEST 2023

With the participation of 184 athletes in individual events and 11 relay teams, the XIX World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023 will start this Saturday, in the capital of Hungary, where several athletes come from winning medals in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela, defending World Champion in the Triple Jump, has looking for becoming the first competitor to win four consecutive world titles, Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic, will seek glory in the women’s 400 meters, while Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, aims to continue writing a great history for his country’s athletics.

Other medalists of the San Salvador 2023 Games who will be in Budapest 2023 are Pablo Ibañez of El Salvador in the 400m hurdles, as well as Emanuel Archibald of Guyana in the 100m, Jereem Richards of Trinidad and Tobago in the 400m, and the spectacular Joselyn Brea of Venezuela in the 5000m.

Also competing in Budapest 2023 will be the World youth runner-up in the Long Jump, Natalia Linares of Colombia, as well as Ayden Owens-Delerme in the Decathlon from Puerto Rico, who finished fourth in the 2022 World Championships, and Alejandra Ortega of Mexico, who will compete in the 35 km.

More than two thousand athletes from more than 200 nations have registered for this event, who will seek the minimum mark in their events to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where some ten competitors have qualified for the Parisian event from the last Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

Those who arrive at Budapest 2023 with a ticket to Paris 2024 from San Salvador 2023, are Yulimar Rojas, Lázaro Martínez, Liadagmis Povea, Leyanis Pérez, Marileidy Paulino, Alexander Ogando, Jereem Richards, Michael Joseph, Natalia Linares and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.
