MORE THAN 50 ATHLETES FROM CENTRAL AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN TO COMPETE IN GLASGOW 2024

SANTO DOMINGO.- Fifty-four athletes from the Central American and Caribbean region from 16 countries will compete in the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24, Scotland, scheduled for March 1-3, 2024.

With an overall confirmed list of 651 athletes from 133 delegations, this event will feature twelve world champions, seven winners of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, as well as five gold medalists of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

Of the 54 athletes from the region from the member countries of Centro Caribe Sports, 30 are women and 24 are men.

Jamaica has registered 23 athletes, being the delegation of the region with the largest number for this world championship event. This list is followed by the Bahamas with six, Cuba with four, while Mexico and Puerto Rico have three each.

Among the champions of the San Salvador 2023 Games, Jereem Richards of Trinidad and Tobago, double champion in the 400 meters and the men’s 4×400 relay, has been confirmed, as well as Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, who equaled the record in the women’s 100 meters by winning the event, and Natalia Linares of Colombia, who won gold in the long jump.

Also competing in Glasgow 24 will be Uziel Muñoz of Mexico, champion of the shot put in San Salvador 2023, as well as Lázaro Martínez of Cuba, who won the triple jump.

Jereem Richards reigning 400m record holder.
The reigning double champion of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, set the World Indoor Track and Field Championship record when he won the 400m in 45.00 seconds in the last edition, held in Belgrade, Serbia.

Qualified to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Caribbean athlete will seek his second title and third overall, remembering that he was part of the men’s 4x400m relay in the 2012 Istanbul version, while still a junior athlete.
