NICARAGUA BASEBALL TEAM QUALIFIES TO SAN SALVADOR 2023

NICARAGUA.- The Nicaraguan Baseball Team became the Champion of the Central American Baseball Tournament, and undefeated by beating 13 runs to one its similar of Honduras, in the great Final of the event held this Sunday at the Soberania National Stadium.

With this victory, the local team qualifies to the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games, San Salvador 2023, to join El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Curacao, a competition that is scheduled for June 25-30 at the Saturnino Bengoa Stadium.

Ronald Medrano pitched five two-strikeout innings, with one ticket and four strikeouts, earning the victory.

In addition to Medrano, Nicaragua manager Sándor Guido used Osman Guiérrez, Carlos Téller, Roniel Raudez, Joaquín Acuña and Goffrey Bennett.

In the tournament, Nicaragua’s pitching allowed only 1 run in 41 innings of work, while 62 runs were scored offensively.

“We are happy because the objective was met,” said Sándor Guido. “In addition to winning the event, we are in the Baseball Tournament of the Central American and Caribbean Games, where the competition is very strong but we know we can do a great job,” he added.

Honduras took second place and the silver medal of the event.

COSTA RICA WITH BRONZE

According to Pablo Barquero, starting pitcher and winner for Costa Rica in the third place game of the Central American Baseball Tournament, since 2010 the Tica team had not won a medal in the region’s Baseball Tournament.

“I remember that in 2010 we won the bronze medal. Today this is something special and I feel happy about it,” added Barquero.

Costa Rica beat Guatemala by a 4-0 shutout to take third place and the bronze medal of the event.
