PRESENCE OF OLYMPIC ATHLETES ADDS VALUE TO CENTRAL AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN GAMES
SAN SALVADOR.- With the participation of elite world-class athletes, the Central American and Caribbean Games will have a historical highlight for its presence in San Salvador 2023, said Luis Mejía, President of Centro Caribe Sports.
“These games will bring us hundreds of Olympic athletes and dozens of world and Pan American champions, in addition to those we are projecting for the coming cycles,” said Mejia Oviedo during the General Assembly of Centro Caribe Sports, held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in El Salvador on Thursday.
Some 17 Olympic medalists will be representing their countries, among them the Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas, the Dominican Marileidy Paulino, the Colombian Mariana Pajón, among other figures.
Mejía Oviedo pointed out that with the presence of these athletes and the celebration of San Salvador 2023, the Central American and Caribbean Games have been rescued.
“El Salvador has saved our games”, expressed the President of Centro Caribe Sports, who considered as a feat the staging that the Central American country has done in a year and a half: “This will remain for history”.
The Olympic leader pointed out that the regional sports organization exists for the games and indicated that the realization of these is of utmost importance for the Olympic cycle of the athletes of the region.
“With San Salvador 2023 underway, we have rescued our main brand,” he assured.
Mejia Oviedo revealed that Centro Caribe Sports is working hard to get its youth games underway, just as it did with the I Central American and Caribbean Sea and Beach Games in Santa Marta, Colombia last year.
He spoke about how important it is for the organization to work ahead of time on future venues.
“We have to pave the way to organize our games ahead of time,” he said.
The XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games will be inaugurated this Friday 23rd, starting at 7:00 pm, El Salvador time, where DJ Marshmello is the guest artist.
