Punta Cana Proposed as Host of the IOC Session in 2027
Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) has been proposed by the Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the IOC Session in 2027. The decision will be subject to a vote by IOC members during the 144th IOC Session, to be held in Greece in March 2025.
The IOC Executive Board’s proposal follows the recommendation of the IOC Session Evaluation Commission, chaired by IOC Member Mr. Ser Miang Ng, who conducted an on-site feasibility study in October 2024. The visit was carried out in the presence of IOC Member in the Dominican Republic, Mr. Luis Mejía Oviedo, and the President of the NOC, Mr. Garibaldy Bautista.
The Commission was impressed by the exceptional quality of the world-class facilities, combined with a clear focus on sustainability, as well as the strong support from local authorities.
IOC Session
The IOC Session is the general assembly of IOC members and its supreme governing body. It is where all major decisions are made, and proposals presented by the Executive Board are voted on.
The IOC Session is held at least once a year, and in years when the Olympic Games take place, it traditionally precedes them. An Extraordinary IOC Session can be convened at the initiative of the IOC President or upon the written request of at least one-third of IOC members.
